Challenge
The combination of a large metropolitan population, a subtropical “tornado alley” location, and venues that regularly host major national events makes the leadership of the Arlington Emergency Management Agency hyper-vigilant. They need to be, because on any given day, they may find themselves responding to a natural disaster or preparing for a national sports event. And sometimes both, as happened a few years ago, when the area was covered in ice while preparing to host the Super Bowl and the largest influx of visitors the area had ever seen.
Solution
With the breadth and variability of event types they knew they would face, Arlington EMA needed a solution that was easy to use and could adapt over the long haul. They chose Activu, and after working with the company for over a decade now, they are certain they made the right choice of both partner and technology.
Result
The Activu system delivers complete situational awareness. A changing superset of information sources — from the National Weather Service to state and local Police, the fire department, Public Works, satellite news feeds, and security cameras — is quickly, easily, and dynamically organized in the control room, and shared elsewhere in the organization as the incident demands. Whether grappling with an ice storm, a traffic accident, or the Super Bowl, the emergency management leadership can see whatever information is called for, and share it with subject matter experts across the Emergency Operations Center and beyond.
