As cars crawled through the Wallace tunnel at a very slow pace this Memorial Day weekend, ALDOT employees inside the Mobile Region Traffic Management Center kept their eyes on a floor-to-ceiling Activu-powered video wall displaying nearly 100 camera angles of the road. The center’s manager, David Johnson, said traffic will most likely be at its worst on Monday afternoon as beach-goers return to town for the work week. He said that one of the issues he sees while watching the wall that captures every accident, traffic jam, and broken down vehicle near the tunnel, is when drivers refuse to let emergency vehicles pass them.
