Last fall, the Morris County Public Safety Complex went fully operational after nearly seven years of planning and construction. The new, state-of-the-art facility was built as an addition to the county’s public safety complex. The facility uses some of the most advanced visualization and communications technology available to public safety organizations including two video walls built by Activu.
The Emergency Communications Center, home to a three-high by six-wide Activu-powered video wall of Mitsubishi cubes, serves as a combination 911 call center and dispatch for the police, fire and emergency medical services of 23 participating towns. The display wall is used to provide an at-a-glance view of all emergency activity going on within Morris County, showing statistical information on the number of 911 calls being processed, the status of the radio systems, a summary of open events, which emergency units have been assigned and GPS locations of emergency vehicles.
The other control room, the Emergency Operations Center, serves as a large-scale emergency and event command center and features a second Activu-powered video wall consisting of twelve Mitsubishi projection cubes in a two high by six wide configuration. This display wall is used to during emergencies to display information critical to a common operating picture (COP) for those working on the active event. Information is aggregated from weather and news feeds, cameras in emergency vehicles, traffic cameras and some security systems from various organizations (schools, hospitals, etc) throughout the county.
