Challenge
When Alagasco began planning their new operations center, they had two goals: create an improved job environment where employees could work collaboratively and build an operations center that enhanced employee efficiency and service. Their existing control room and didn’t foster easy communication and collaboration. The room was small with a single display; distribution controllers worked at two separate consoles and had to walk back and forth between their workstations when they needed to share information.
Solution
To find the best solution for their operational requirements, Alagasco hired a consultant. The consultant ultimately recommended Activu, whose software would allow Alagasco to easily see and share critical operational information and respond to customer needs quickly.
Result
In Alagasco’s new operations center, the Activu solution provides the distribution controllers with an complete operational overview of their distribution network, SCADA system, news and weather reports and system maps. When taking a break to exercise and relieve fatigue, they can see the same information on a monitor in the facility’s exercise room. The entire staff, ranging from the distribution controllers to management can easily view, analyze and discuss what is occurring during an emergency or high-activity periods; while collaborating, they can diagnose the issue, quickly find a solution and return to normal operations.
