No, these workers don’t have COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by coronavirus. In fact, they take their temperatures twice daily and record the readings to make sure they remain healthy. Instead, they are among the NYISO employees who have volunteered to be sequestered in order to make sure the state’s electricity grid continues to operate smoothly.
They also provide a preview of what other truly essential operators or industries may be doing in future weeks if the pandemic continues to spread and other crucial sectors such as food production and transport, in addition to energy, need to keep functioning.
